Oral history interview with Tillie De Leon, May 5, 1986.

De Leon describes her family origins, and her father and mother (Rebecca De Leon, nee Peha) coming from Rhodes and marrying in Seattle in 1907. She mentions important family friends Rabbi and Mrs. Hirsch Genss. She remembers other family members who arrived in Seattle and her early years living on 15th Avenue and Yesler. De Leon was one of the first Sephardic children to attend Washington Elementary School when she started in 1915, and she describes her experiences there. She attended Ezra Bessaroth synagogue and recalls her instructors Israel, Tio Lezer Beneviste, and Reverend David Behar. De Leon also attended Leschi School and Garfield High School, and was confirmed at Temple de Hirsch. She describes interactions between Sephardic and Ashkenazic girls in de Hirsch and her interactions with students at Garfield. She was also active in the Sephardic Youth League. De Leon discusses her social life in Seattle, her education at the University of Washington and at business college, and her employment at Druxman's Jewelers. De Leon moved to California in 1936 but later returned to Seattle.
